Sixth grade at St. Joseph School is the major transition year between the self-contained classroom of elementary school and the rotating classes of middle school. Sixth graders get the best of both worlds! They rotate on a block schedule based on homeroom. Welcome to 6th Grade World Geography. In this class we will be studying the geography of the world. We will be studying geographic features, maps, culture, history, economics and politics of the western hemisphere and how each of these impacts others around the world. Read ’Sixth Grade Daily Geography: Simple Geography Lessons Wonders Of The World for Kids 6Th Grade Books’ by Baby Professor available from Rakuten Kobo. Who says geography is difficult to learn? This amazing book will teach you otherwise! Picture books like this one lets t.
I used the Platinum Social Sciences Grade 6 Book as guideline for our Geography Curriculum for this year, but I expanded it a little by adding my own extra books and activities.
The topics covered in our curriculum are the following:
*Map skills (Latitude, longitude, hemispheres, scale, our province)
*Trade
*Resources and their value
*Climates around the world:
*Tropical Rainforests
*Hot Deserts
*Cold Deserts
*Coniferous Forests
*Temperate Deciduous Forests
*Temperate Grasslands
*Tropical Grasslands
*Lowland Tundra
*Highland Tundra
*People and Provinces in South Africa
*Why people live where they do
*Rural and Urban Areas
*People around the World
*Research Project: Brazil
*The City of Rio de Janeiro
I created a complete Notebooking set to go with this curriculum, and also short daily lessons that are easy for my son to follow and complete on his own (though he will need me for some tasks and discussion topics).
In the outline you will see that there are Target Worksheets and Formal Assessments scheduled. These are found in the Teacher’s Guide that I purchased together with the Learner’s Book. The Teacher’s Guide also has the memorandums for the formal assessments/tests/exams, and other discussion topics. My outline is custom-made according to our other subjects, and scheduled mostly for 2 lessons per week, except where we hit Climate and vegetation around the World, when there are more experiments to be done (we’ll use Science around the World by Janice VanCleave), so the lessons are scheduled for 5 days a week (for 9 weeks). Our Geography curriculum totals to 94 lessons for the year.Geography Beemr. Mac’s 6th Grade CurriculumBooks used or referred to in this year’s curriculum:
